When it came to gameplay, nothing could beat the super Nintendo at the time of its release. With its RISC architecture chips, 3D polygonal effects and texture mapping, advanced graphics effects were available, enabling the creation of stunning 3 dimensional worlds. This made the snes a popular game system. Because of its popularity, many super nintendo accessories have been available since its creation. These accessories range from the unique, like the Nintendo Mouse, to the completely bizarre, like the Satelleview, a modem accessory for your SNES that allowed you to play games online with other SNES players.
Some of the most important accessories that were released were the input devices. The basic controller, which featured shoulder buttons, a movement pad, and 4 buttons arranged in a diamond shape, has been remade countless times, to include ergonomic designs, custom colors and more stylish designs. Nintendo has also released the “Super Scope”, a light gun along the lines of the original “Zapper” for the nes. The “Super Advantage” was an over sized joystick pad that was approximately the size of arcade game joysticks.
Those with a Super Gameboy can purchase an adapter which allows the Gameboy to connect directly to the snes. This allows games for the Gameboy to be played directly through the snes on the television.
Several unofficial accessories have also been released through the years. Backup systems have been developed, allowing the user to make a copy of games that are fully playable in case the original game itself becomes corrupted or damaged. XBAND, a modem that allowed the player to connect to other players via a dial up connection, was released for a while, but never really became popular, so was pulled off the market.
Super nintendo accessories, as well as the best snes games, are still available today for a retro blast to the past. Players can hook up their systems, pop in a game and lose themselves in the feeling of the 90s!
